Los Angeles-based Journalist and Photographer. Bringing awareness to social issues and current events.
About
My name is Melissa Crumby. I’m a 28 year old journalism major and photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. Most of my articles can be found published within a community-based newspaper, The Collegian. My main goal thus far, has been to bring awareness to social issues and resources that can be used within my community. Writing and playing around with words is my specialty. I’ve been a photographer since I’ve received my first DSLR at the age of 13. I take photos on a variety of different cameras, all ranging from digital to film. My photos have been used in local magazines as well as cover photos for musicians, and fliers. Music has always been a large part of my life. DJ-ing at local events and parties enables me to experience the music industry, as well as, work with and take photos of many like-minded talented, creative individuals.
Mission
I believe it’s our job as journalists to provide the public with the truth and reputable, helpful resources. Producing an article that makes the reader step outside of their usual thinking box is always a plus to me. The media is a great tool for people to use when properly communicated. As an artist as well, I believe it’s important to invoke feelings from any individual viewing and taking in your art.
